Guests had to submit their phones before being allowed into the venue for the ceremony as Berla and David were keen on an intimate and private moment.

Giovani Caleb who is the ‘Daily Show’ host’s colleague at Media General, parent company of TV3, took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to congratulate his friend and workmate.

Writing about what seemingly is Berla’s marriage ceremony, Giovani posted:

Already excited about the goodness of the Lord this year 2024. Congratulations my Teshie Beyonce - Queen B!. Bless your union.

Photos and videos of the ceremony are yet to hit social media as the couple controlled the narrative of their big day by ensuring no unofficial photo and video equipment were allowed from invited guests.

How to ensure your Ghanaian wedding day stays private and off social media

In an age where sharing life’s moments is as easy as a tap on a screen, maintaining privacy during significant events like your Ghanaian wedding has become a challenge.

While it's natural to want to capture and share the joy of your big day, keeping certain moments private is equally important. Here are five effective ways to ensure your wedding day in Ghana remains personal and off the social media radar.

Set clear guidelines

Start by establishing guidelines with your guests regarding social media use. Include a note in your invitations or have your officiant make an announcement before the ceremony requesting that guests refrain from posting pictures or videos until after the event or a communicated timeline. Communicate your wishes politely but firmly, emphasizing the importance of privacy for you and your partner.

Unplugged ceremony

Consider having an unplugged ceremony where guests are kindly asked to refrain from using their phones, cameras, or other devices. Encourage them to be fully present and enjoy the moment without the distraction of technology. This not only ensures privacy but also allows everyone to immerse themselves in the beauty and significance of the ceremony.

Designate an official photographer

Hire a professional photographer whose work you admire and trust. Share your privacy concerns with them and emphasize that you prefer to keep your wedding photos off social media. Discuss the importance of confidentiality and ensure they understand your desires to maintain the sanctity of your special day. This way, you control the distribution of your wedding images.

Create a wedding hashtag

If you want to manage social media sharing to some extent, consider creating a unique wedding hashtag. This allows you to gather and monitor posts related to your wedding while still maintaining some control over what gets shared publicly. However, make it clear to guests that using the hashtag doesn't imply permission to post without your consent.

Have a conversation with VIPs

Engage in a personal conversation with close friends, family, and bridal party members about your wish for privacy. Discuss the importance of keeping certain moments off social media platforms. Often, those closest to you will respect your wishes and act as advocates for your privacy throughout the celebration.

Remember, your wedding day is about celebrating your love and commitment to each other. While sharing moments is delightful, some aspects are best kept private and shared intimately between you and your loved ones. By setting clear boundaries and communicating your desires effectively, you can ensure that your special day remains personal and off the social media frenzy.

Be like Berla. It's possible to go private with your Ghanaian wedding.
