ACCRA, GHANA: This young man was jailed for an act of kindness giving a young woman a lift. Now, their wedding is fully sponsored.

In the era of COVID when everyone could do with an act of kindness, Samuel was just trying to be kind only to end up behind bars.

After a late church session in 2020, Benedicta who was with the online streaming team at church asked a young man for a lift home. Despite not expecting a yes to the request, Samuel was kind enough to offer a lift home on that Tuesday.

Driving a few minutes away from church, Samuel’s life turned around for the unexpected. Acting in shock and not knowing what to do at the moment, Samuel could only realize that the police had picked him up. He had mistakenly knocked down a pedestrian. Observers around had called in the police. He was on his way to the police station.

“He unknowingly knocked down a pedestrian,” Benedicta narrates the sad story of a lift gone wrong.

The situation could only get worse as the pedestrian who was knocked down passed away.

“And we picked the girl up and took her to the hospital,” Benedicta reflects.

“When we got there, they tried to revive her. She came up for about two seconds but later they said she was dead,” she adds.

All this while, Samuel was in police custody. Benedicta started to think about the young girl who had lost her life. She could not sleep. Overthinking had taken over her thoughts with what-ifs.

What if she hadn’t asked for the lift? What if they took a different route?

“I was just thinking about what I had led him into. Because I kept telling myself that if I hadn’t asked him for the lift, probably he wouldn’t have left the church at that time and time and chance would have happened fairly on our part but the unfortunate happened,” Benedicta shares.

What had been a difficult moment for Samuel and Benedicta began to look like a positive future. When he was released on Friday following his arrest, Benedicta started getting close to Samuel in a bid to comfort him for what he had been through.

The talks, the checkups, and the texts led to them growing fond of each other. A few moments later, love spoke. Samuel and Benedicta were a thing.

The Seed Bride

The Seed Bride is a non-profit initiative organized by blessed and thankful wedding vendors yearly, to make the dream of one lucky couple come true at no cost.

Starting in 2021, The Seed Bride has touched the lives of two amazing couples, offering free engagement and wedding ceremonies in the initial year with the second edition in 2023.

In 2023, Samuel and Benedicta became the lucky couple to have a fully paid marriage ceremony.

“I saw last year’s The Seed Bride and I was like ow I would like to be The Seed Bride for 2023,” Benedicta says as she narrates the challenging story of how she and husband-to-be Samuel fell in love.

“So when I saw that the window had been opened, I quickly drafted our story and I sent it to Samuel to also go through. After he did I sent it through the mail.

“By the grace of God, the mail came and it said “Congratulations, you are God’s chosen bride,” she adds with delight in her eyes.
